Strike: On the streets for precision

Gatherings in Athens and Thessaloniki. PAME at the Propylaea, at the Klathmonos GSEE and ADEDY. Closed streets in the centre of Athens, strike rallies in progress.

The centre of Athens is in a strike zone, due to the traffic regulations and gatherings that are underway for the 24-hour nationwide strike. The centre of Athens is impassable, while federations, trade unions and unions are in the Propylaea, Claytmonos and other parts of the city.

According to APE-MPA, at the moment, traffic has been stopped on Piraeus Street from the height of Iera Odos, as well as on Panepistimiou and Stadiou Streets from the height of Americas Street, while other roads around Syntagma are expected to be gradually closed.

GSEE, ADEDY and EKA gathered from 11 in the morning at Claythmonos Square, while the PAME rally took place at Propylaea.

Right now, thousands of strikers in the centre are on a long march to the Constitution, with the first blocks of unions already outside the Parliament.

Thousands of people participate in the nationwide general strike, with the streets of Thessaloniki filled with demonstrators.

According to thesstoday.gr, private and public sector workers, trade unions, students, teachers, institutions, unemployed and pensioners, send a loud message by being present in the 24-hour strike declared by the GSEE and ADEDY.

Their main demands are wage increases, the reinstatement of collective labour agreements, measures to combat poverty, the immediate solution of the housing crisis that is affecting the country and the disengagement of Greece from the wars.

Initially all the unions gathered at the Venizelos Statue and after the speeches the march started and moved to the YMATH, where the end point of the march is.

OASTH operates with security personnel throughout the day, as the organization participates in the 24-hour strike called by the GSEE and ADEDY.

At the same time, a march was held in Patras and specifically in the National Resistance Square.

The gathering was attended by private and public sector workers, teachers, freelancers, traders, health workers, pensioners, student organisations, institutions, etc.

The Municipal Authority, led by the Mayor of Patras, Kostas Peletidis, also participated in the meeting.

As stated, among others, in a statement of the Labour Centre of Patras, «we are giving all our strength to escalate the struggle and the demand for the abolition of all anti-worker laws that undermine collective agreements and fixed daily working hours».

In the same statement it is noted that «we demand wage increases and collective agreements, an inflation-based wage adjustment clause, the restoration of achievements such as three-year contracts, effective protection of working women and maternity through collective agreements, measures against precision, measures for health and safety in the workplace».

The rally was followed by a march in the main streets of Patras.
