The Municipal Authority, faithful to its commitments to the local community, announces that the contract for the construction of the project «Mormori Avlemona Road» was signed between the Mayor Mr. Efstratios Harhalakis and the contractor Mr. Christos Marasonis.
This is one of the most important road projects of recent years on the island, as it shortens the route from Diakofti (central port) to the tourist areas of Avlemonas and Paleopolis by at least 15 km. This project, in combination with the new bridge at «Makronas», which is already under construction, creates new conditions for road safety and development in the entire region and, by extension, on the island as a whole.
Thus, two of the most essential demands of the Local Communities of the area, demands that had been expressed for decades, are now being implemented, thanks to the methodical planning of our Municipal Authority and the substantial support of the Region of Attica.
It is planned to widen the entire road along a length of approximately 3.5 km in order to obtain the appropriate width of 5.5 m., the construction of stormwater drainage techniques, the installation of metal protective parapets and the striping of the road after its asphalt paving with new modern asphalt pavement 5 cm thick.
The study and the full maturation of the project (including all the required approvals) was a long process that was successfully completed by the Technical Service of the Municipality of Kythera in cooperation with the Technical Support Department of Attica Island Municipalities of the Region of the Islands.
The project, which is financed entirely from the Region of Attica's own resources, has a total budget of 500.000€ (including VAT), while after the discount (36%) the final cost will amount to 322.189,10€. The deadline for completion is 8 months.
