The shocking images captured in Potamos—showing a rupture in the main sewer line, just above the Mavrila ravine, as uncontrolled sewage is flowing in abundance onto nearby properties, creating serious problems for the environment and the community.

According to reports from a reader dating back to Sunday, August 4, the situation is getting worse because the main sewer line has burst, causing sewage to flow unchecked. The photos and video reveal the sewage flows, while the video shows the unacceptable conditions.

Local authorities are urgently called upon to resolve the problem, while residents are expressing deep concern about the impact on the environment and public health. As announced by the president of the Municipal Community, P. Alevizopoulos, municipal services are expected to take action tomorrow, Tuesday, August 6.

It should be noted that, unfortunately, for decades now, wastewater from the Potamos sewer line has been flowing into the Mavrila ravine, where it has caused significant environmental damage. The current municipal administration, despite having been in office for 10 consecutive years, has not taken any measures to address this serious issue.

To effectively address the critical situation in the Mavrila ravine, the Municipality of Kythira must take the following measures:

5. Information and Transparency: Actively keeping residents informed about the progress of the work and the measures being taken, as well as the next steps that will be taken.
6. Collaboration with experts and relevant organizations: Collaboration with local, regional, and national agencies to resolve the problem, including the involvement of environmental protection experts.
