Unanimous Acquittal of Venardos by the Disciplinary Committee in the Road Case

The EEPKA announced that the Disciplinary Council for Elected Officials unanimously rejected the charges related to the road case and has announced that it will take further legal action.

In a statement issued today, Thursday, July 9, the Kythira and Antikythira Local Property Commission announced that its chairman, Evangelos Venardos, had been unanimously acquitted by the Disciplinary Council for Elected Officials in the case concerning the «Routsouna» and «Simatoreio,» and other related matters.

The announcement states that the Disciplinary Council, which—as noted—consists primarily of senior judicial officials (Presiding Judge of the Court of Appeals and Judges of the Court of Appeals), unanimously decided to exonerate the president of the EEPKA.

At the same time, the statement refers to a «leak of a confidential document,» noting that the case had been «publicized» following its disclosure, and concludes by pointing out that «the appropriate legal actions will be taken,» without providing further details.

Today’s announcement by the EEPKA marks Mr. Venardos’s first public statement following the conclusion of the disciplinary proceedings, which had sparked intense interest in the local community. It should be noted that the Kythera.News had revealed on May 26, 2026 the referral of Mr. Venardos to the Disciplinary Council for Elected Officials, with the possibility of his suspension or even removal from office, based on the relevant file that had been forwarded by the Decentralized Administration of Attica.

At the same time, the administration of the Local Property Authority remains at the center of intense controversy surrounding the handling of matters of public interest. This was preceded, in late 2025, by a criminal complaint filed by surveyor George Syrmalis regarding the legality of the EEPKA’s operations, the Commission’s legal counterattack, and the complainant’s rebuttal—in a case that continues to dominate local news. Following today’s announcement, it is now of interest to see the full reasoning behind the Disciplinary Council’s decision made public, so that the reasons leading to Mr. Venardos’s unanimous acquittal may be made known.
