On the initiative of Thodoris Dritsas, Member of Parliament for Piraeus A and Islands, co-signed by Nikos Filis, Head of the Education Sector, and Nina Kasimati, Member of Parliament for Piraeus B, Yiannis Ragousis, and Tryfon Alexiadis, a total of 24 SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance MPs submitted a question to the Minister of Education and Religious Affairs regarding the unacceptable and critical educational gaps in the schools of Aegina, as is also the case in the schools of the Municipality of Piraeus and other islands of the Argosaronic Gulf, as well as in Troizinia and Kythira. They also raised the issue of the exhausting overtime worked by teachers as a result of these gaps.
In their question, the members of parliament present detailed information based on announcements by the Piraeus Teachers' Association and the Parents' and Guardians' Associations of Aegina, and conclude with the following urgent questions to the Minister of Education:
1/. What urgent measures will the Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs take to immediately fill the teaching vacancies in schools on Aegina, Agistri, and other islands?;
2/. The necessary recruitment of substitute teachers will be accelerated in an effective manner so that all schools can function properly and, at the same time, prevent teachers from being exhausted by compulsory overtime that exceeds their capabilities and directly affects their educational work. ;
3/. Will Integration Departments be created and staffed with appropriate personnel, where necessary, for children with special educational needs, who have also received the relevant opinions from the Diagnosis, Assessment, Counseling & Support Centers (KEDASY)?;
4/. Will the Ministry cover the cost of transporting these students to and from their school?;
5/. Does the Ministry have a specific policy, plan, or provision in place to reduce the cost of living for teachers who have to work in schools far from their permanent place of residence?;
