An unprecedented statement was made by the Deputy Minister of Labour, responsible for Demographic Policy and the Family, Maria Syregela on the continuous femicide that have been taking place in recent months, essentially turning a blind eye to this serious problem.
The six femicides in just seven months are small print, it seems, for Ms. Syrengela who sees no spike in femicides other than what she said in the violence reports.
When the journalist of Documento, Dimitris Hatzinikolas, pointed out to her that of course there is an increase in femicide, the Deputy Minister went so far as to say that «we are not comparing ourselves with Venezuela», because there are far more femicides there or in Mexico.
Earlier she had accused Dimitris Hatzinikolas of demolishing everything to make opposition, while she accused her predecessors of «covering up the situations».
