Two Air Force fighters of the Germany took off urgently from a base in Schleswig-Holstein over the weekend as a Russian intelligence-gathering aircraft was spotted in the Baltic, according to the German News Agency.
The Russian Air Force aircraft was in international airspace over the island of Rugen. The fighters approached it and escorted it until it left Germany.
A Russian aircraft also violated the airspace of Denmark, prompting the Foreign Ministry in Copenhagen to invite the ambassador of the Russian Federation to protest.
Both Denmark and Sweden They say that a Russian Antonov AN-30 aircraft violated the airspace of both states on Friday night. It was flying east of the Danish island of Bornholm, in the Baltic Sea, off the south-eastern coast of Sweden.
In early March, four Russian fighters violated Swedish airspace.
The invasion of Ukraine by Russia's army on 24 February prompted Sweden, as well as the neighbouring Finland, to change their attitude towards the possible inclusion in the NATO. Both Scandinavian countries are now expected to join the military alliance this summer.
