Arrest for the fire in Karvounolakos

Exclusive photos from the site of the fire

After the fire that occurred yesterday Sunday, February 19, 2023 west of Potamos, in the area of Finikies - Karvounolakos, and according to reliable information, the Kythera Fire Brigade has arrested a citizen allegedly as the perpetrator of the fire.

Today we publish exclusive photos from the scene of the fire. It is a farm with olive trees. In the photos it is obvious that the trees are freshly cut. In one of the photos a pile of ash can be seen, apparently from accumulated burnt branches.

This is not the first time something like this has happened on the island, nor is there any question about the size of the penalty, given that we are not in a fire season. But should citizens be more careful, especially when strong winds blow on the island? Would it not be a good idea, even at the last minute, for the perpetrator to call the fire brigade and say: «I made a mistake, come quickly» to save us from the worst? And let's leave the last one... that it spoiled the mood of some people who were having fun on Sundays during the Halloween festivities and were eventually called to assist the Fire Department. It is worth mentioning that in addition to the firefighters, up to 20 volunteers from the local fire department were at the scene. This too has merit, but let us make sure it is unnecessary. Here are the exclusive photos.
