Today, on February 5, 2025, the political interest turns to the Parliament, with the debate on the agenda of the plenary session of the Parliament, at the level of political leaders, which had been requested by SYRIZA and KKE on the subject of «the crime of Tempe».
The curtain will be opened by the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, followed in turn by the two leaders who submitted the relevant request, the General Secretary of the KKE, Dimitris Koutsoumbas and the President of SYRIZA, Socrates Famelos.
In today's debate, the President of PASOK, Nikos Androulakis is expected, as he announced yesterday in Parliament, to submit a motion of no confidence against the government after the recent conclusion of the EODASAM, for the railway accident in Tempi.
The PASOK leader had called on all progressive opposition parties to support his legislative initiative, which requires 50 MPs' signatures to be tabled and PASOK has a total of 32 MPs.
According to Article 84 of the Constitution, the debate on the motion of no-confidence shall begin two days after its tabling, unless the government requests that it begin immediately, and may not be extended beyond three days after its commencement.
The vote will begin immediately after the debate is over and can be postponed for 48 hours if the government requests it, and is only accepted if it is approved by an absolute majority of the total number of MEPs.
Recommendation for a preliminary inquiry for Chr. Triantopoulos with 277 votes in favour
The Plenary of the Parliament, decided to set up a Special Parliamentary Committee to conduct a preliminary investigation (Preliminary Inquiry) on the possible commission of the offence of breach of duty (article 259 of the Greek Penal Code) during the period between 3-3-2023 and 6-3-2023 by the former Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister, Christos Triantapoulos, in the exercise of his duties and in accordance with the relevant proposal of PASOK.
The decision was taken by secret roll call vote.
A total of 297 Members voted. There were 295 valid ballots, 2 invalid ballots and 2 blank ballots.
277 MPs voted in favour of PASOK's proposal, 12 voted against and 4 MPs were present.
Absent were independent MPs Al. Avlonitis and G. Aspiotis, as well as Chr. Mr. Triantopoulos, who, as a controlled person, did not participate in the vote.
Following the announcement of the result of the vote, the President of the Parliament, George Georgantas, announced (and the House approved) that the preliminary committee would be given an initial period of two months, from the day of its establishment, to complete its work.
The Commission will have 27 members, of which 14 will be from the South-Western Party's Central Committee and the remaining 13 members will come proportionally according to the parliamentary strength of the opposition parties (i.e. three members from PASOK, two from SYRIZA, two from KKE and one member from Hellenic Solution, New Left, Eleftherias Eleftherias, Niki and “Spartans”), as well as one member from the independent MPs.
