If you have traveled the «road» from the Potamos-Karava artery to Karydianika, you know that it is not a path but a punishment—full of bathtub-sized potholes, dangerous rocks, and loose debris. And it is not useless.: 13 houses are located there, olive groves and flocks of sheep need access, while registered hospitality businesses depend on this road.
Hear the bitter truth: should have been completed by Easter 2024.
At the beginning of that year, the mayor promised 60.000 € – and pledged to allocate the same amount every year, until the entire road was completed. Hope sprang up. By spring, the amount had fallen to 50.000 €, but the residents took action. Thirteen households contributed 5,000 € to level the road, cover it with inert material 3A, and compact it—so that the municipality's money is used exclusively for cement. With this plan, the €50,000 could yield more than 1.100 meters of normal pavement.
We did our part. Trucks were dispatched. The inert material was placed.
And then – silence.
No cement. No contractors. Only excuses:
- «The municipality is under financial audit.»
- «It's very hot.»
- «It's raining heavily.»
- «Other projects have priority.»
Meanwhile, the winter rains wash away our work—and our patience—little by little.
What is the cost?; Real and growing:
- Cars knock on the frame, tires burst, shock absorbers break.
- Workers refuse to enter – plumbers, electricians, and even agricultural machinery operators.
- Taxis ask for a «risk premium» or simply refuse to take passengers.

Every journey resembles Kythira Rally – with repair bills, not trophies.
It's not about comfort – but for security, dignity, and justice. Karydianika pays the same municipal taxes as every other village. And yet, we find ourselves with a road straight out of a disaster movie—and elderly residents feel trapped, especially when rain cuts off access.
Even a sign «DANGER OF DEATH!» We bought it. (Half cartoon. Half not.)

The mayor and the municipal council were elected. to serve all Kythirians – not just those who live in paved areas. We don't ask for luxury. We demand the road they promised us.
So our request is simple:
Allocate the funds. Start the projects.. Mr. Mayor, keep your word.
If not, we will rename the street to «Avenue of Promises» – paved with promises, leading to nowhere.
Residents of Karydianika
(We still hope for cement – against all logic)
P.S. Fellow citizens of Kythira: imagine your child's school bus – or an ambulance – on this road. Would you accept it? Stand with us. A united Kythira is stronger. Kythiraa.
