During this year's underwater excavation, the investigation and excavation of the section that had already begun in 2019, on the western boundary of the ship's surviving hull, continued. In the area of the incision, many pieces of wood were found, both from the ship's hull and parts of the notebooks. These fragments were scattered and in no particular order, indicating the general destruction of the wreck during its sinking, as well as during the subsequent wrecking processes. The destruction of the ship was particularly pronounced, as parts of the nome were found to be trapped under rocks, indicative of the severity of the waves in the area, mainly caused by southerly winds, which affect the bottom at great depth.
At the site of the incision were found, as during the previous excavation period in 2019, a significant number of wooden and metal objects primarily related to the dislocation of one of the two masts of the ship. Wooden through-rollers used to roll the antenna of the mainsail on the mast, wooden rollers to prevent the ropes from winding, wooden bindings for attaching the ropes, pulleys of various sizes, single or double, some of which still have parts of their mooring ropes (35 pulleys or parts of pulleys have been recovered from the wreck site to date, out of a total of about 120 needed to rig a ship of Mentor's size).
From the results of the survey, it is confirmed that the excavated area coincides with the position of one of the two masts of the ship (Mentor was a two-deck brig) and most probably the stern mast, since some of the wooden parts are connected to the rigging of the ship's stern antenna. Still, during this year's survey, there was an opportunity to lifted and photographed three-dimensionally, two sections of prefectures of the ship. These nodes were not in place and had been moved during the break-up of the ship, but after the photograph was taken they were repositioned in the section.
Particularly interesting were also the other mobile finds that were recovered. They were found for the first time Parts of footwear leather, shoe buckles and belt buckles and other small articles, such as a small coin/mark used mainly in paper games. It is known from the testimonies of both crew and passengers that during the accident they lost all their personal effects, including their clothing.
This testimony is confirmed by this year's findings of the excavation. In addition to the above, various other small objects were also recovered, such as two chess pieces (in previous years six other chess pieces had been found, probably from the same set), coins and fragments of cookware and other kitchenware.
