With 156 “yes” votes against 143 “no” votes (out of a total of 299 votes cast), the Plenary of the Parliament, after a nominal electronic vote, ratified the state budget for the fiscal year 2023, while the defence expenditure and the expenses of the Presidency of the Republic were approved by a large majority.
Specifically, the expenditure of the Ministry of National Defence received 190 ‘yes“ and 109 ”no“, while the expenditure of the Presidency of the Republic received 267 ”yes“ and 32 ”no“.
It is noted that the adoption of the state budget is a vote of confidence in the government.
As the Speaker of the Parliament Costas Tasoulas made known, during the five-day debate on the 2023 state budget, apart from the 6 general and 13 special rapporteurs, 6 parliamentary representatives and 202 MPs spoke, i.e. a total of 227 MPs (a higher number than last year). The Deputy Prime Minister, 21 ministers, 4 deputy ministers and 10 deputy ministers, i.e. 36 members of the government, as well as the 6 chairs of parliamentary groups also spoke. The five sessions of the debate on the 2023 state budget lasted about 60 hours.
