Millions of mobiles will lose access to the WhatsApp from 1 January, as the new update of the popular messaging app will not work on devices with older operating systems.
The iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S were released before iOS9, but their owners can still download this version of the operating system. In contrast, iPhone 4s cannot update to iOS9 and will therefore lose access to WhatsApp.
Among the phones Android that will lose access to WhatsApp are the Samsung Galaxy S2, HTC Desire and LG Optimus Black.
According to the Independent, the phones that will completely lose access to WhatsApp from January 1 are:
- Apple iPhone 1 to 4
- Samsung Galaxy S2
- HTC Desire
- LG Optimus Black
- Motorola Droid Razr
- All Android before 2010.
The phones that will need to update their software to at least iOS 9 or Android OS 4.0.3 are the following:
- Apple iPhone 4S
- iPhone 5
- iPhone 5S
- iPhone 6
- iPhone 6S
- Samsung Galaxy S3 and newer
- Samsung Galaxy Note
- HTC Sensation
- HTC Thunderbolt
- LG Lucid
- Motorola Droid 4
- Sony Xperia Pro and newer.
