The journalist Spyros Karatzaferis passed away on Thursday evening.
The news was made public on Friday morning by the journalist's brother and former president of the Greek National Party, George Karatzaferis. «He passed away late at night. It is shocking for me as the younger brother who followed in his footsteps. I am devastated,» he told Parapolitika 90.1 radio station.
He was born on 24 February 1938 in Potamia, Arcadia. He graduated from the «Homer» School of Journalism and began his journalistic career in 1959 at the newspaper «Vradini», in police reporting (1959-62). This was followed by Ethnos (1962-68), Apovevmatini (1968-75) and Eleftherotypia (1975-88).
In 1988 he left Eleftherotypia and became director and editor-in-chief of the newspaper Epikairotipoy (1988-91), where he became director and editor-in-chief.
In 1990 he also started publishing the weekly newspaper «48 Hours», while at the same time he published the military magazine «Defence Issues». Later he was editor of «Athinaiki», as well as of «Wedge». In television, he worked at ERT, YENED, Star Channel (where he was news director for many years), Teleasty, Extra Channel, etc. In radio, he had a show on Flash 96 for several years.
