With a multi-page feature combining myth, history, and contemporary life, the magazine BLUE by AEGEAN, in the October issue, takes its readers on a journey to Kythira. Editor-in-chief Stavroula Saloutsis presents the island as «spread out between three seas,» a place that, as she notes, «belongs nowhere else but to its own myth.».
The tribute focuses on the dual nature of the island: on the one hand, the mythical element—the birth of Aphrodite, references to Homer, the inspiration of poets and artists—and, on the other, the intense experiences of the place: the scent of thyme, the evergreen sempervivum, the chestnut trees, the ochre and terracotta houses, the arches of Mesa Vouno, the waterfalls of Mylopotamos.
Her photographic gaze Maras Desipri and art direction Nikos Yfantis highlight the natural and architectural beauty, while the text of the Katerina Anesti composes a lyrical guide to wandering around the island of myths and poetry. The tribute is framed by a travel guide by Fotis Vallatos with photos of Dionysis Kouris, providing visitors with practical suggestions and experiences.
From the Castle of Chora and Avlemonas to Kaladi Beach and the wreck of the Mentor, BLUE captures Kythira as a place where mystery and history meet authentic beauty and the need to return.
