After a period of preparation that lasted several hours, the disembarkation of hundreds of migrants from the ferry at the port of Paleochora began on Tuesday evening. The migrants had been rescued after a major operation that began overnight and were towed to the port.
The harassed people get off the boat, are counted and transferred by bus to the ship “Samaria” of ANENDYK where they will be temporarily accommodated. At least two people have needed first aid, one of them, a young man, is being taken to the hospital in Chania.
Members of the Special Operations Group of the Coast Guard are overseeing the safety of the operation, while heavy rain has begun.
