With a sharp press release the municipal faction «All Together, Kythera-Antikythera» brings back to the fore the need for accountability for the devastating fire of 26 July 2025.
The councillor of the faction, Panayiotis Megalokonomos, submitted a formal question to the City Council asking for answers about the lack of firebreaks, which were planned and funded but not implemented. At the same time, it asked what measures had been taken by the Municipal Authority to prevent fires and what strategy it intended to implement in order to avoid a repetition of similar omissions.
The faction recalls that the scheduled August accountability meeting was cancelled by decision of the City Council President, with the excuse of «workload of the services for data collection», and 20 days later it has not yet been rescheduled.
Mr. Megaloconomou's question, as noted, expresses the anguish of the society of Kythera and highlights citizens' demand for transparency, accountability and meaningful information.
