With a unanimous resolution, the mayor of Pyli, Kostas Maravas, and the members of the Municipal Council of the Municipality of Pyli, are against wind installations in the mountainous area of the region.
With the resolution issued by the Board, the Board asks the government and every body involved to suspend the licensing and work in the mountains of the Municipality of Pyli.
Specifically, the resolution states:
“After the installation of the Wind Tissue in the Community of Paleokarya in order to collect data for the creation of a Wind Park in the area and the continuation of the above procedures in other areas of our Municipality.
With the weight of responsibility imposed by its institutional role and the sensitivity of all its members, in terms of the protection and utilization of the unique mountain range and at the same time the quality of life of the inhabitants of the mountain communities of the Municipality and without overlooking the fact that the economy and the wealth of the mountain range of the Municipality is based on the sustainable exploitation of our forests, traditional livestock farming, beekeeping and alternative tourism.
The fact that the Local Government does not participate in any phase of the licensing process of the above mentioned RES is the most serious reason for the unacceptable situation that has been formed and unfortunately leads the Society to position itself against a renewable energy source, which is also wind energy.
The fact that for us:
1. It is inconceivable that the procedures for issuing permits for the installation of wind farms in beautiful areas which should be protected, preserving their existing use and exploited for tourism.
- It is our obligation to react to the planned destruction of the beautiful areas of our country, the destruction of the fauna and flora, our history and cultural heritage.
We support the citizens and the institutions of our Municipality, cooperating with them on a continuous basis, so that our common effort succeeds, which is none other than the cancellation of the installation and creation of Wind Farms in the mountainous area of our Municipality.
In addition to the monstrous wind turbines with the height of a small skyscraper, the accompanying road works will require excavations of several cubic meters, definitively overturning their unique aesthetic value morphology.
Besides, the regions that have this important energy source are among the poorest as they rely exclusively on the above sectors of the economy, and the installation of wind farms will contribute to their impoverishment.
For all these reasons, we ask the Government and every body involved to suspend all permits and works for the wind farms in our Municipality.
We say NO to Wind Farms in the beautiful mountains of the Municipality of Pyli”.
