The municipal faction «All Together, Kythira-Antikythira» strongly criticizes the Municipal Authority, complaining that with successive direct awards tens of thousands of euros, a closed circle of suppliers is served, while for the the real needs of the citizens the answer is always «there is no money». Particular reference is made to the recent decision on the maintenance of websites at a cost EUR 37 200, as well as in the awarding 2.480 euros for social media just two months old.
The party speaks of shameful management of municipal resources, while basic needs such as pothole repair, lighting and public spaces remain unmet. Wanted clear answers for the equipment of the Municipality (such as the expensive camera that «disappeared»), as well as full disclosure of documents and deliverables.
The message to the Mayor is clear: «The society of Kythera cannot bear any more shadows. Show seriousness and transparency.». Here is the press release:
«Seriousness at last, Mr. Mayor»
With successive Mayor's decisions approved expenditure of tens of thousands of euros for direct assignments, while for the real needs of citizens, from the restoration of potholes and improving lighting to elementary interventions in public spaces, the answer is always that «there is no money». The people see it clearly: money for assignments is always there; for the needs of life in Kythera, never.
With the Mayor's Decision 671/2025 (ID: 9I1ΨΩΛΨ-ΨΩΩΩ) the Municipal Authority of Kythera has approved the direct award of 37.200 euros for the «maintenance and upgrading» of the Municipality's websites. This decision is not an isolated incident. It adds to an ongoing practice of assignments that end up with the same people and raises legitimate questions about the way the City Authority manages citizens' money.
At the same time, with the Mayor's Decision 635/2025 (ID: 6Φ9MΩΛΨ-DATH), the same contractor receives an additional €2,480 for «social media promotion» services lasting just two months. The sum of the two decisions amounts to EUR 40,000, which we consider disproportionate to the scope and value of the deliverables.
It is a real shame to allocate such sums in this way when the basic needs of the local community remain unmet.
We are not forgetting the issue of the camera, which was acquired a few years ago at a high cost and was highlighted in press releases at the time. Today nobody knows where this equipment is. The employee who used it has retired, but there is no official information about who has received it. And the silence becomes even more pronounced when you consider that the current contractor of the direct assignments is related to the then operator by family ties.
Who is responsible for the equipment of the municipality? Who is accountable for its safekeeping and use?; We are waiting for official answers. Transparency in such matters is not a luxury, it is an obligation.
We request that all documents, technical sheets and deliverables be made public immediately. We ask for clear answers about the use of the equipment purchased with citizens' money. We ask for an end to the practice of repeated direct awards that create the impression of serving a limited circle of suppliers.
The society of Kythera cannot bear any more shadows. The Mayor must finally show seriousness, ensure transparency and prove with actions that he serves the public interest.
