Serious responsibilities to the Port Fund, Port Authority and port security officers attributes the head of the municipal faction «All Together, Kythira-Antikythera» Zacharias Souris, after the incident that occurred in the port of Kapsali during the scheduled approach of a cruise ship. Mr. Suris speaks of a complete lack of foresight and organization, despite the fact that the arrival had been announced a year ago, complaining that the image presented degrades the island's tourism and exposes the image of Kythera internationally. He said he would raise the issue at the next Municipal Council, demanding public apologies and accountability.
PRESS RELEASE
«All Together, Kythira-Antikythira»
Statement by Zacharias Souris on «Absence of the Port Authority, inactive ISPS & This is how we expose our tourism»
I cannot remain indifferent to what is being publicly reported about the situation that prevailed in the port of Kapsali during the scheduled approach of a cruise ship.
The image presented insults our island and degrades our tourism. The arrival of the ship was known a year ago and the total lack of provision for the smooth docking of the lances and the safe service of visitors is unjustified.
There can be no excuses, no excuses, no «there were only two of us or only three of us». Responsibility must be sought and attributed to all actors involved, to the Port Fund of Kythera, to the competent Port Authority, to the Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO). They are responsible, according to the ISPS Code and Greek legislation, for the supervision, organisation and smooth operation of the port, especially during cruise ship arrivals.
In accordance with current legislation and the ISPS regulation, the port must have a clearly defined and free mooring area for the mooring lines, as well as surveillance for the safe disembarkation of visitors. If this cannot be guaranteed, then the legitimate question arises: why did we pay for the port to have ISPS when none of what it provides for is implemented?;
I am committed to bringing the issue to the next City Council and to exert all necessary pressure so that those responsible will publicly apologize and take responsibility.
The development of tourism in our country will not come by chance, but with organization, seriousness and responsibility..
