Novak Djokovic: Why he was deported from Australia

The world's No. 1 tennis player will be forced to leave the country, although it is considered a given that his side will appeal, with the Serbian's main goal being to avoid a three-year ban from entering the country.

On Friday morning (14/01), the decision that everyone had been expecting more or less was made. Novak Djokovic's visa has been canceled by the Australian government and his deportation from the country is a foregone conclusion.

The world's No. 1 tennis player will be forced to leave the country, although it is considered a given that his side will appeal the decision., with the Serbian's main goal being to avoid a three-year ban from entering the country.

But how did we get here? The facts of the case are clear. The Australian government had set as its goal A clear requirement for all those obtaining visas to enter the country to be vaccinated.

The Serbian, for his part, was one of the athletes who had made his position clear on vaccination and the coronavirus in general, indicating for some time that he would not be participating in the process.

So, the organizers of the Australian Open decided to grant him the right to participate through a medical exemption, after the Serbian presented a document showing that he had contracted COVID-19 last December.

However, this was not enough for the border authorities when he arrived in Australia about a week ago, and that's when the trouble started for the Serbian. Last Monday (January 10), Nole won his first victory in court, but as it turned out, this was not enough to keep him in Australia.

The gesture of remorse was not enough.

That's how we got to last Wednesday (12/01) when Novak Djokovic made a move of repentance, acknowledging his mistakes.

The Serbian claims that he learned he was positive for coronavirus after the event for children on December 17, but admits that he knowingly broke quarantine when he gave an interview to L'Equipe on December 18.

Finally, regarding the error in the application form about whether he had traveled in the last 15 days, he states that he did not fill out the application himself, but that his companions did, and they have apologized.

However, even this was not enough to convince the Australians to turn a blind eye to his situation, and so we reached the decision to revoke his entry permit to the country.
