A new fire broke out on Monday afternoon (July 17) in Panakto, Boeotia, in the municipality of Dervenochoria.
According to a statement from the Fire Department, 10 vehicles with 33 firefighters, 2 ground teams, and 1 helicopter with 2 aircraft are currently operating at the scene.
Meanwhile, the situation regarding the fire in Neo Kouvaras is taking a turn for the worse, as within a short time the flames—fueled by strong winds—have not only spread over a large area (more than 4 km), but, unfortunately, the first photos and videos have also confirmed what the mayor of Saronikos, Christos Gkinis, reported: that the first houses have been destroyed. CNN Greece contacted the Fire Department, and according to the latest information, there are 20 active fire fronts for which the Fire Department has received calls.
Emergency Interministerial Meeting at the Civil Protection Agency Regarding the Fires
Meanwhile, the Civil Protection Agency will hold an emergency interministerial meeting regarding the fires in Kouvaras, Loutraki, and Boeotia.
According to reports, in addition to Civil Protection, the meeting will be attended by the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Health—which will coordinate health units and the National Ambulance Service (EKAV)—the Region of Attica, and the Ministry of Citizen Protection.
