The students and teachers of the school have been exposed to great risks 1st High School of Neos Heraklion, following a roof collapse over the Christmas period. There were no people at the scene at the time of the collapse, but the fact that structural defects have been identified in the complex raises concerns.
As the president of the Parents« Association, Mr. Yannis Manolas, stresses in the OPEN TV show »Hellenic Hour", the roof collapsed where the teachers' entrance was. It was all caused by the 2019 earthquake when the three complexes at the school, which accommodates 450 children and is the largest in the region, were damaged.
As he points out, one complex was restored without even a structural adequacy check, while in the other two the repairs started a month ago and during Christmas the roof fell down.
According to the report, problems for certain sections had arisen after the earthquake, but work began last December. According to him, the municipal authority that should have mobilized on the issue bears responsibility, as children may be at risk. Among other things, it is reported that the guard's house, which was inside the building, was destroyed after the incident.
