Australia has announced that it will spend seven billion Australian dollars (about 4.5 billion euros) on infrastructure for the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane, including the construction of a 17,000-seat stadium.
The State of Queensland will contribute A$2.7 billion to the reconstruction of Brisbane's famous cricket ground, «The Gabba», with an increase in capacity from 8,000 to 50,000 seats.
In addition, a new 17,000-seat indoor stadium, worth A$2.5 billion, will be built in Brisbane's city centre with funding from the federal government.
In addition, a 1.87 billion grant from the state and federal governments will be allocated to 16 other new or modernized facilities.
Queensland Premier, Anastacia Palaszczuk, said the 80% infrastructure for the Games is already in place.
«It is clear that we must do our best, not only to deliver the best Games, but also to leave a lasting legacy for Queensland and all who visit this great state,» said Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during a press conference, adding that there will be further «milestones» between now and 2032:
«It will make a huge difference to our economy, to our way of life, to the way Australia is perceived around the world, so it's important that we get it right. And I'm convinced that's what we've done.’.
It is recalled that the 2032 Olympic Games were awarded to Brisbane in July 2021 by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
