Trails - Sunday excursion: From Pitsinanika with love (photo report)

We continued our excursions to the unique nature of Kythera on Sunday, November 13th. The second edition of the winter walks on the island's paths, found us at the famous “Kafeneio tou Halikokos” in Pitsinianika, which was set as the starting and finishing point for the joyful human “river” that once again flooded the Tsirigotiki countryside.

Meeting time was set for 2 pm outside the quaint little café behind the old school with the basketball court. Frank, as always, first to the appointment, tireless, animated, enthusiastic, taking care of the last details. The customary academic quarter for the Sunday hoopers followed, and then the signal was given with the legendary “captain's” whistle.

The route started uphill from the church of the village, and then took a downward trend that brought us to the neighbouring Keramoto through the overloaded olive trees. A small first stop and then a circular route to Kalisperianika. At the village church, Agios Georgios, we were met by Mrs. Eleni, who opened the church and offered us a delicious homemade dessert she had made.

Second stop at the church's courtyard and from there turn towards the General's winery and then uphill towards Drymonas. A short stop at Agia Marina, gazing at the magnificent view towards Agia Elena, while the kids were climbing the church's bell tower.

The last phase of the walk, saw the colourful bus of excursionists passing by Kasimatianika, bypassing Kalokirines, before arriving, once again, at “Halikokou's”, which was the haunt of many for epic tsipouro performances.

The group, after thanking the initiator and coordinator Frank, renewed the appointment for next Sunday (weather permitting), while a glorious sun set in anticipation of the new week.

Here is a rich photo reportage of the Sunday walk.
