Support to Culture Minister Lina Mendoni from all members of the government, after what is happening with the case of Dimitris Lignadis, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis asked the Cabinet.
At the end of the meeting, Mitsotakis stressed that the cabinet is a collective body and invited the ministers: “Everyone support Lina”.
This is not the first time that the Prime Minister has asked the members of the government to work collectively. As he said today, “we always stand by each other in difficult times.” While reminding the ministers how many ministers Mendoni has helped from time to time in matters of responsibilities.
The Prime Minister even commented that: “SYRIZA has occasionally targeted various ministers and has asked for the resignation of half of the cabinet members and by the end of the four-year term it will have targeted them all.” In this way he implicitly but clearly told the members of the government that they should face the attacks of the opposition with unity, as their turn may soon come...
However, the support to Ms Mendoni was clear and given in view of tomorrow's debate in Parliament at the level of political leaders, which Mr Mitsotakis himself has asked for in order to put SYRIZA before the government, as they say from the government, for its responsibility for the partisanship of the case of rape of minors.
It is recalled that the government had supported the Minister of Culture, but at the same time cleared her for the communication manipulations of the case of Lignadi. It should be noted that the deputy government spokeswoman Aristotelia Peloni had stated during Monday's briefing that a communication foul does not constitute grounds for dismissal.
The choice of the word expulsion was not accidental. Maximou has not asked and does not intend to ask (at least so far) Mendoni to leave the government. But it would have no objection if Mendoni, for reasons of decency, facilitated by resigning. However, according to reports, the Minister of Culture has not made her resignation available to the Prime Minister and has (so far always) no intention of doing so.
