«Obesity & Type 2 Diabetes in Children and Adolescents» will be the topic of the second online lecture of the 7th Lecture Series of the Institute of Public Health at the American College of Greece.
The topic will be discussed by Dr. Evangelia Charmandari, Professor of Pediatrics and Pediatric Endocrinology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens School of Medicine and the “Agia Sofia” Children’s Hospital”.
Ms. Charmandari will discuss childhood and adolescent obesity, which is one of the most challenging public health issues of the 21st century, due to the increased morbidity and mortality associated with it worldwide, as well as the increased economic cost of treating its complications.
Specifically, he will talk about the the high prevalence of obesity among children and adolescents in Greece, as well as ways to address this issue through the «National Program for the Prevention and Treatment of Obesity.»
Finally, he will emphasize how useful large-scale data can be for the design and implementation of personalized strategies to combat childhood obesity, citing as an example the HORIZON 2020 ‘Big Data Against Childhood Obesity’ program, an innovative, citizen-centered project that has made a significant contribution to addressing the problem.
