With epidemiological data worsening at an exponential rate and «record-breaking» numbers of coronavirus cases following one after another, the pressure on hospitals is reaching suffocating levels, a fact that is causing concern among both government officials and scientists, given that the National Health System’s resources are not inexhaustible.
Specifically, today, Monday, November 8, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) announced new «record highs» in both the number of cases and the number of deaths. The number of patients on ventilators and new hospitalizations remains high.
In particular, the EODY announced:
«The number of new laboratory-confirmed cases of the disease recorded in the last 24 hours is 7,335, of which 17 were identified following screenings at the country’s entry points. The total number of cases stands at 792,239 (daily change +0.9%), of which 50.7% are men. Based on confirmed cases over the past 7 days, 146 are considered travel-related, and 2,542 are linked to a previously known case.
There have been 65 new deaths among COVID-19 patients, bringing the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 16,361. 95.3% had an underlying medical condition and/or was 70 years of age or older.
The number of patients hospitalized and intubated is 477 (58.5% men). Their median age is 65 years. 81.3% have an underlying medical condition and/or are 70 years of age or older. Among the patients currently hospitalized and on a ventilator, 402 (84.28%) are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, and 75 (15.72%) are fully vaccinated. Since the start of the pandemic, 3,356 patients have been discharged from ICUs.
The number of new COVID-19 patients admitted to hospitals nationwide is 407 (daily change: +5,71%). The seven-day average of admissions is 360 patients.
The median age of cases is 38 years (range 0.2 to 106 years), while the median age of deaths is 78 years (range 0.2 to 106 years).»
