The Union of Kefalonians & Ithakians of Kifissia & Northern Suburbs is preparing to celebrate the historical anniversary of the Union of the Ionian Islands with Mother Greece (May 21, 1864).
The big anniversary event is scheduled for Sunday 24 May 2026, at 19:00, and will be hosted in the hall of the Cultural Centre of the Kifissia Town Hall (at the junction of Dionysos and Myrsini streets).
The programme of the event is divided into two parts, combining historical memory with the rich Ionian tradition:
- Part 1 - Speeches: Mr. Stavros Zapantis, Councillor of Kifissia and Vice President of the Association, will shed light on unknown aspects of the life of the National Governor Ioannis Kapodistrias, analysing his decisive influence on the life of the Ionian Islands. Immediately afterwards, the baton will be passed to the President of the Corfiot Centre of Athens, Mrs. Lina Vergi, who will deliver the solemn speech of the day.
- Part 2 - Music and Dance: The music of the evening will be provided by the choir «IONIOU VOICES». Under the baton of conductor Emilio Giannakopoulos, the choir will fill the hall with favorite Ionian melodies and other well-known hits.
- The evening will culminate with the appearance of the dance department of the Kythiraikos Association of Athens. The members of the band, dressed in traditional local costumes, will present dances from the various Ionian Islands, closing the celebration in the most authentic way.
The Board of Directors of the Association, represented by the President Mr. Dion. Kekatos and the General Secretary Mrs. Apostolopoulou, extends an open invitation to the public, stressing that the presence of all will be a great honour and pleasure.
