With the publication of the newspaper «student stories», the students of the 6th grade of the Primary School of Potamos prove that the classroom can be transformed into a living organism of creativity.
Under the guidance of teacher Anastasia (Natasha) Kaga, the class adopted Célestin Freinet's pedagogy, a method that promotes free expression and collaboration through. The students imaginatively liken their classroom to a cell, where the teacher acts as the central core of control and knowledge as the DNA that binds them together.
Themes that transcend borders
The newspaper covers an impressive range of reporting and analysis:
Local News & Environment: From the magic of Kythera and life in Antikythera to the difficult recording of summer fires and the beekeeping tradition of the island.
Culture & Art: Students «interview» great Renaissance painters, compose historical dialogues about the 1821 Revolution and critique contemporary cinema and TV series.
Social Sensitivity: They give mature thoughts on children's rights worldwide and participate in European e-Twinning projects (In e-twinning they collaborate with the school's 5th grade and with schools from Greece and Europe), discovering the secrets of nature and hiking.
The creators
Behind each page is a diverse group of young journalists, illustrators and writers. As Mrs Kaga says in the closing of the publication, «this newspaper is not just a project, but an «expensive souvenir, full of light» of their school life».
The publication was carried out with expenses covered exclusively by the «Orange of Karava» Association.
Congratulations and good luck in your next steps guys! Congratulations Mr. Gaga for the result!
