In a climate of intense reflection and consensual mood held tonight at the Conference Centre of Fratsia Kythera the Open General Assembly of the island's construction industry. The assembly raised for discussion the serious problem that has arisen with the cessation of support for Kythera by the Piraeus YDOM, so that building permits cannot be issued. The administrative support of the municipalities that do not have a planning office has expired as of 31 March 2023, no inter-municipal cooperation and staffing of the YDOMs have taken place based on the recent law and once again the processing of planning cases, building permits and investments is in the air.
The meeting was attended by the Deputy Mayor of Urban Planning, Charalambos Sougiannis, who informed the participants about the recent actions of the Municipality on the issue of supporting Kythera, especially in the issuance of building permits. He then brought to the attention of the meeting the prospects of extending the service of the island by the Piraeus Municipal Department of Public Works and the promotion of inter-municipal cooperation with the Municipality of Piraeus, given that at this time, due to the elections, it is difficult to find immediate solutions in view of the national elections.
A fruitful dialogue followed, where several of the attendees, referring to the chronic suffering of the construction industry of the island in urban planning issues, and the ineffective efforts, at least since 2010 (Kallikrates Law), urgently called for the establishment of the Municipality of Kythera as a definitive solution, even if legislative interventions by the Parliament are needed. At this point, criticism was levelled at the chronological inability of the Municipality to achieve the establishment of a YMCA in Kythera over the years, and apart from the brief debate on which administration bore the greatest responsibility for this, it was preferred by all those present to put an end to this endless effort to find a solution and finally establish a YMCA in Kythera.
In fact, the framework in which there will be relevant developments was discussed, with the first action to possibly put the issue off the agenda at tomorrow's regular meeting of the Kythera Municipal Council. It is worth noting that the meeting was attended by representatives from all the municipal factions, apart from Mr. Sougianis was present Mr. Magoulas and Mr. Didimiotis, and there was a synergy of the three in the direction to discuss the issue in tomorrow's meeting of the City Council and to take other initiatives.
It is expected by tomorrow at noon to have a new update, with a relevant announcement from the coordination of the assembly, as well as the Municipal Council that will raise the issue of the establishment of the YDOM in Kythera.
