The «irregularity» with which the current Greek government is dealing with the reform cuts resulting from the disbursements of the Recovery Fund, is pushing the Commission to work out an alternative model of governance for the country.
According to a report on the website euractiv.gr, there is concern in Brussels about the fearful syndromes of the Mitsotakis government towards a closed «business lobby» which castigates any prospects for investment in the small and medium-sized business sectors that were primarily affected by the pandemic.
Given the fact that the disbursement of the first tranche of the Fund has already been delayed and with the possibility of early elections in September, the Commission, faced with the spectre of ungovernability and pending payment of the second tranche of the Fund, seems to be pushing towards a national unity government of technocrats.
