«He came, he saw and he departed.» The reason for the popular bad weather «Hope» who visited both the Kythera, but, unlike other regions, it did not leave a heavy imprint on the place and its people. In addition to the limited intensity of the phenomenon on the island, the efforts of some of our fellow citizens also contributed to this.
People like the Deputy Mayors, George Kominos, responsible for, among other things, Policy and Social Care and Yannis Katsanevakis, responsible Civil Protection on the island, who worked tirelessly from the very first moment to solve any problems that arose, quickly and efficiently.
And there have been problems, indeed, in the past few days. These had to do with both heavy snowfall which covered all the roads of the island, as well as with the an interruption in the power supply observed in various places.
The Municipality made two machines available from the first hours of the storm, which were thrown into the battle of opening the roads before the first day passed and the cold weather created icy conditions. As a result, drivers' journeys were made easier, which, after being informed by the Civil Protection, were limited to the minimum necessary.
As for the power outage, it was restored in due time, thanks to the timely intervention of the technicians of the HEDNO. We should mention here that the problems in the electricity supply are due to the fall of a column in the area of the airport.
Beyond that, there were few cases in which the Fire Department and these mainly involved extricating drivers from their vehicles.
