The Kythira Foundation for Culture & Development, in collaboration with the Municipality of Kythira and Antikythira, is organizing a performance on July 23, Saturday, at 10:00 p.m., at the Zeidoros Multipurpose Center theater in Kapsali, Kythira. A musical documentary—a «farewell ceremony» for the people leaving their homeland in every direction.
Kythira is a unique place whose modern history has been shaped by migration and the refugee experience. The performance is a collection of stories, songs, photographs, and other material gathered from the island’s local population. Using this material, a musical documentary was created—a «farewell ceremony» for the people.
This is the composition of an original musical work—like a great dirge that, centered on the human voice, offers the reminder/redemption that comes from people’s relationship with their land and their separation from it. A delayed ritual of solace and remembrance.
A long-awaited farewell.
The performance is being presented in collaboration with the Greek National Opera, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, as part of the program titled «All of Greece, One Culture.».
