K.I.P.A. expresses its satisfaction that a project of great importance to Kythira is entering the implementation phase, and indeed has been given priority in the call for proposals. This is the project «Local Urban Plan for the Municipality of Kythira (Antikythira Local Unit, Kythira),» with a total budget of €802,100.38 (plus VAT) and funding from the «Greece 2.0» Recovery and Resilience Fund. This project will give a major boost to the island’s sustainable development and environmental conservation.
K.I.P.A. congratulates the Municipality of Kythira for its significant efforts to promote this project and particularly highlights the following statement from the relevant announcement: «The Local Urban Plan has been a topic of discussion on our island for decades and is now on a highly realistic path to completion. In conjunction with the Study on the Carrying Capacity of Kythira’s Infrastructure—which our Mayor has requested be funded for all island municipalities (an issue he raised publicly and during his meeting with the Prime Minister on June 15, 2022), it is clear that the
Kythira’s future development will be protected from unregulated construction, grandiose investment proposals, and any action that would directly or indirectly jeopardize
»a threat to the natural, built, cultural, and man-made environment of Kythira.".
Now, cooperation and vigilance are essential on the part of all those who must address
this issue, so that the outcome will be in line with the island’s needs and those of the
the high expectations that will arise from its completion. K.I.P.A. will contribute
actively participate in any necessary action by making suggestions and in any other way required.
