Bad weather «Elpida»: Total chaos – Athens-Lamia national highway closed – Drivers trapped

Chaos on the national highway with drivers trapped, despite statements of readiness. The problems should have been avoided, said Nikos Pappas.

Despite assurances that they will be done doing everything possible to keep the national highway open Athens-Lamia, half an hour after the snowfall began, the Nea Odos company and the Traffic Police decided to suspend the circulation of all cars.

At this time, the closure has been extended. to the Tragana toll booth at kilometer 121 on the way up to Lamia and from the Tragana toll booths on the way down to Athens, as well as on the roads leading to the old national highway.

The problem is enormous because internal transport is not served either, while Hundreds of cars remain trapped on the national road network at various points between the Tragana toll booths and Athens.

According to an announcement by the General Police Directorate of Central Greece the circulation of all types of heavy vehicles is prohibited, with a maximum permissible weight exceeding 3.5 tons in the following sections:

-On the New Athens-Lamia National Road in both directions, from km 56.728 to km 67.655.

-On the New Athens-Lamia National Road in both directions, from km 67.655 to km 121.250.

Furthermore, the same decision prohibits traffic in the following sections:

-On the New National Road Schimatari-Chalkida in both directions, from km 0.000 to km 1.500.

-On the Old National Road Elefsina-Thebes in both directions, from km 30 to km 45.

Thus, trucks weighing over 3.5 tons are prohibited from traveling from the Tragana toll booths to Athens, while passenger cars are allowed to travel.

Ο George Patoulis, yielded responsibility for the mess at the company that manages the national highway saying that he must bring out machinery and clear the national highway so that the country is not cut in two.

Speaking to OPEN, the Regional Governor of Attica said that Nea Odos had committed itself in meetings held with the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection that Athens-Lamia would remain open.

At the same time, he criticized the company Nea Odos, as it diverts all heavy vehicles and those without chains without warning, resulting in All urban roads are blocked and machinery cannot move to keep the roads open.
