The residents of Laconia are experiencing moments of anguish in the last hours, as the region is affected by flooding and severe storms due to the Byron storm.
The severe weather phenomena have caused serious problems in the road network of the region with the roads turning into rivers, making it difficult for vehicles to move.
Indeed, in Laconia and the municipality of East Mani, teams of EMAK are constantly rescuing citizens from flooded houses and vehicles, saving people from the risk of drowning.
Rescue of three people
Specifically, in Skala, Laconia, men of EMAK proceeded to rescue three people at the last moment, from a vehicle that was trapped and flooded by water. The passengers were extricated from the car, which had submerged in a flooded area, with images of the operation captured on video.
The video footage records the efforts of the rescuers in particularly difficult conditions, with strong water flow and limited visibility, as they approach the vehicle and safely remove the trapped people.
In fact, another rescue took place in the area of Mavrovouni, where nine members of the «Hellenic Rescue Team of Laconia» rescued a family of four from a flooded house. The rescuers used a boat to approach the house, pick up the family members and transport them to a safe place for pick up by ambulance.
As stated in their post, the people who were rescued are only slightly hypothermic and, overall, their health is considered good.
Problems in Zakynthos as well
Similar problems have been caused by the onslaught of bad weather Byron, since the early hours of Thursday (4/12), and in Zakynthos.
According to the same information, traffic on the EO Sparta - Gythio has been blocked at the junction with the regional road of Gythio, while in the area of the lake the road is flooded.
