A wintry scene returns from today, with a cold invasion bringing a significant drop in temperature, strong winds and snowfall in several areas of the country.
Saturday
Increased clouds with local showers in the eastern mainland, the Sporades, Evia, the Cyclades, Crete and the Ionian Sea, where isolated thunderstorms are not excluded. Snow will fall in the mountains and in places in the central and northern parts of the country.
Winds will reach 6-7 Beaufort in the west (locally 8 in the southern Ionian Sea) and up to 7 Beaufort in the Aegean Sea. Temperatures will drop: 6-8°C in the north, 8-13°C in the rest of the mainland, up to 16-17°C on the islands. Frost in the morning and evening in the central and northern regions.
Weather in Kythera - Difficult conditions with cold and strong winds
In Kythera the weather remains the same pure winter.
As of today, Saturday, January 17, the island is under increased cloud cover, with the possibility of light showers at times. Northeasterly winds are strong, at 5 to 6 Beaufort, with gusts reaching or exceeding 60-70 km per hour in places. Temperatures are at unseasonably low levels, with highs around 12-13 degrees and a noticeable chill due to the wind.
On Sunday 18 January the scene does not change substantially. Clouds persist, while occasional showers are not excluded. Winds remain strong from the north and northeast, keeping the feeling of cold. Temperatures show a slight further drop, especially in the morning and evening hours.
On Monday and Tuesday, January 19 and 20, continued instability is expected. Clouds will be increasing, with localised showers at times, mostly light. Winds will continue to blow with intensity, but without significant strengthening, while temperatures will remain at winter levels, with no significant rise.
On Wednesday, January 21, the cloudy scene persists, with the possibility of occasional showers and heavy humidity. Winds continue to affect the island, maintaining unfavourable conditions, especially for sea travel and the power grid.
