WRITTEN DIVINE PROCLAMATION
In today's Gospel reading we heard about Christ's impressive encounter with the ten lepers and their miraculous healing.
The healing of the ten lepers, and even in the time of Christ, when the disease of leprosy was incurable, is a great miracle. A miracle that overturns the social and religious establishments of His time.
Christ came into the world to overturn all the wrong social and religious facts and to dissolve prejudice, fear and rejection and to stand with love and affection to those who call upon Him in faith and expectation.
Healed lepers are no longer outside human society. They have passed from isolation into the world, from abandonment to cohabitation, from impurity to purity. But the door through which they passed back into the world was Jesus Christ.
The former lepers became clean through Christ, just as through Christ every man receives salvation through the Sacraments and is justified in the Church. Christ is the door for man to pass «from death to life», from the impurity of sin to the enlightened life of God.
Today's Gospel, then, points out to us the great problem of our attitude towards our fellow human beings, who, like other lepers, are on the margins of society.
Christ joyfully receives all of us into His immortal Table, transforming the unclean into the clean, the sinners into saints. For the Apostle Paul exhorts us to receive one another, as Christ has received us, in our wretchedness and waywardness. AMEN.
