Foolishness and wisdom
In today's Apostolic reading, my brothers and sisters, the first of the Apostles, Paul, spoke of the danger of behaving like fools - that is, like fools, succumbing to various temptations, useless activities and pernicious abuses.
The criterion of our rapid progress (for those of us who have believed in Christ) is the endurance of our lives in the light.
All our works will be controlled by the light. And it will be seen whether we are walking correctly or not. «We join the works of the darkness with the works of the darkness». Such a catastrophic fate testifies to a lack of wisdom; not the wisdom of the world, not even the wisdom of science. Such wisdom, based on the human mind and learning, is not enough. It may be useful, it may be admirable, as it studies and reveals the works of God, but it is not what the Apostle implies.
Lighthouse and signpost in our life is according to Paul «what is the will of the Lord».
How many times, my Christians, we are troubled and swayed at critical moments! How many times do we doubt whether we are doing the right thing?;
With the simplicity of his sermon, Ap. Paul points us to the safe choice: «What is acceptable in the sight of the Lord.».
Our thoughts, our actions and especially our hearts to be attuned to the will of Christ. And we know His will: both our conscience and His own commandments guide us safely. What Christian will forget the supreme commandment at the Last Supper: «You loved each other». What believer of His will fail to recognize His example of meekness, forgiveness, exercise, humility and sacrifice?;
We know, my brothers, how to live and how to behave. Enriched with this wisdom, we walk the often difficult path of our Christian life, trying to be like Him. If this is what our soul demands, if our choice is Him, without reservations and «holdings» for ourselves, then the rest of the work is «His work».
Then our whole being will rejoice. And our mouths will sing and sing His glory in melodies drawn from our hearts for our Lord.
