The article mentioned the Uncontrolled situation at the site where bulky waste is dumped in Skliri (at the intersection of the main provincial road and the Aloizinanikon Road. Also in the article The mayor's post was reposted on Facebook, in which at 11:00 p.m. on the 8thof In June 2022, he stated the following:
«CARELESSNESS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED! The bulky waste bin on Skliri Street in Aloizianika was emptied this morning. A few hours later, this is what it looks like. The bin is empty, and chaos reigns outside. Tomorrow, the Deputy Mayor in charge will file a lawsuit for environmental degradation. And of course, the lawsuit will list ALL the names written on the discarded boxes. The prescribed fine will be imposed on those same individuals. Enough with this thoughtlessness! Enough!»
In this post of his accompanied by photos from that spot, where objects (cardboard boxes) could be seen that had the full names of specific residents written on them.
This morning, a citizen alleged to be responsible for dumping trash at that location informed us that he had nothing to do with the incident and categorically denied any involvement on his part.
We are not prosecutors, so it is not within our authority to bring charges or to acquit anyone. That is why we removed the photos showing those specific names from our article.. Let the justice system determine who is responsible and who is not.
Because we report on events and ask questions, we do not wish to participate in any kind of public shaming of our fellow human beings.
As far as we are concerned, we sincerely apologize to the public and to any members of the public who feel that we have caused them harm by republishing the photographs.
We would like to emphasize and remind you that the post in question was published on the MKD Facebook page and on the Mayor’s personal account, and was reposted by numerous media outlets.
Finally, we reiterate that This issue must be investigated, and those who are blatantly polluting our island must be held accountable. Dumping trash outside of trash cans is, of course, unacceptable. But no mudslinging, and whoever gets it…
