Kythera.News honors the Greek Revolution and, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of its outbreak, shares key chapters of its history with its readers.
With the support of public television, which produces the series and airs it on its channels, we present one-minute clips from texts of the era, which quote the words of prominent activists, intellectuals, and even official opponents, which, in their details, bring to life a turbulent, painful, yet at the same time glorious era.
The concept, selection, compilation of the texts, and reading are the work of Professor of Modern Greek History at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Maria Efthymiu, who, on a volunteer basis, has compiled and presents texts from the era of 1821 that explain, recall, and recount the revolutionary years through the words of the fighters of ’21 and the intellectuals of the time.
In today's episode, we see:
«Theodoros Kolokotronis, the legendary «Old Man of the Peloponnese,» discusses the influence of the French Revolution on the Greek War of Independence of 1821.»
