Georgios Drizos was born in Athens in 1930. While travelling he discovered Kythera, fell in love with it and dropped anchor in its picturesque harbour. With no origins on the island, we can now say that Drizos is a Kythirian. He has participated in various exhibitions in Greece and abroad. In 1975 he printed lithographs of his works on the Occupation. Works by Georgios Drizos are currently housed in the National Gallery, the Ion Vorres Museum of Contemporary Art, the Ministry of Education, the National Bank of Greece, the Postal Savings Bank, and other municipal and private collections in Greece and abroad. The artist's source of inspiration is nature. Colour is the powerful weapon in his style, which is characterized by a very free depiction of the landscape.
Fryni Drizou is the wife of George Drizou, who followed him in life and painting and has a remarkable body of work. Like George Drizos, Fryni draws several elements from Kythera. Her themes include figures of angels, girls and elements from folk tradition.
