Ο Norwegian Karsten Varholm, with a historic race in the men's 400m hurdles, won the gold medal to Tokyo Olympics Tokyo Olympics, crushing the world record with performance in 45.94! In second place the American Ray Benjamin and Olympic bronze medalist the Brazilian Allison dos Santos.
The 25-year-old champion from Oslo confirmed his title as the great favourite against an equally great opponent, Ray Benjamin from the United States, but he made sure to leave his mark on the Tokyo Games with an unreal world record.
His own world record, with 46.70, which he had set 32 days ago in Oslo, was... turned into a leaf by the Norwegian, who not only «withstood» Benjamin's «attack» after the 200 meters, but with an incredible finish he lowered the time below 46 seconds, reaching 45.94.
Indicative of the incredible race was the fact that Benjamin also dropped his performance below the (previous) world record limit, finishing second with 46.17, while third place Allison dos Santos completed the race with 46.72 (a new Brazilian record). It is also noteworthy that 4th place McMaster (Virgin Islands), 6th place Yasmani Chopelo (Turkey) and 7th place Rasmus Maggi (Estonia) set national records.
