The second edition of Satyrs and Maenads: The Porno Film Festival of Athens will be online in December.
121 short films and 3 feature films will be available for viewing for 10 days on the PINKLABEL TV platform. The films will be organized in thirteen programs with a ticket price of about 15€. Viewers can only purchase a ticket until midnight on 9 December. (25% of the ticket proceeds will go towards the legal costs of Zack/Zackie Oh's family.)
Opening Film: Feminine Ejaculation and Other Mysteries of the Universe by Julia Ostertag
Writer and director Julia Ostertag took an exploratory autobiographical journey into the still partly unexplored world of female ejaculation. Along the way she met six female protagonists from five different countries who have dedicated their work to this topic - in film, literature, performance art, activism and sex education. She took part in practical and theoretical workshops in Rome, Berlin and Mexico, interviewed Annie Sprinkle on Skype and learned about the female phallus. The film offers new perspectives on female sexuality and a sex-positive political history of female pleasure in a diverse collection of archival footage, interviews and documentary footage.
Lovers Program: Or in other words, erotic flexibility. The theme of the program is heteroflexible. Let's have fun with eroticism and sex, alone, in pairs or even three by three.
Euphrosyne Programme: One of the three muses, Euphrosyne was the deity of joy, cheerfulness and good fortune. Although we take our porn seriously, that doesn't mean we forget to laugh!
Defences Programme: The ancient Greeks most often used the verb δέφεσθαι (rub, soften) for ma@@@cia - which they viewed rather negatively, as a sign of lack of restraint and moderation. And in the world of pornography, “solo” scenes are considered inferior to «normal» scenes. But, perhaps because of the pandemic and social distance, machismo is making a comeback. Here are the results.
Lysistrata Programme: A selection of short films on the theme of female sexuality. There may be a cameo appearance by a phallus but that's a different issue here.
Sappho Programme: Sappho was considered the best lyric poet of antiquity and her name of origin became synonymous with love between women.
Ganymede Programme: Ganymede is the most famous lover of Zeus. This program celebrates love and sexuality between men.
Tiresias and Pegasus Programme: Tiresias was the mythical blind prophet who was transformed into a woman for seven years and Pegasus is a winged horse. The films in this program are set in the magical world where trans meets queerness.
Program Greek +1: Selection of films with titles such as “Kavles” and a central theme of «upright» Greeks in every way.
Hospitality Program: Ten Years of PopPorn: Every year a foreign festival will be hosted. This year celebrating 10 years of PopPorn, the festival brings 14 Brazilian films from this decade of sexy fun and joy, curated by Tino Monetti.
Symposium Programme: In ancient Greece, a symposium was an evening where men met, got drunk and sometimes exchanged ideas. In this program, everyone is invited to have a drink and exchange more than ideas.
Prometheus Programme: Prometheus Bound is the patron saint of BDSM movies and rightly so.
Closing film: VIVANTE
Vivante sets itself apart from other adult films by tackling themes rare in pornographic cinema, disability, sexual aid and self-acceptance. Anchored in reality, the film takes us through the birth of a love story, which a dramatic event will shatter, and its difficult renewal. Through this film, director Anouhska wants to breathe a breath of hope for those who have experienced painful events in their lives.
Some questions at the Athens Porn Film Festival:
What is porn?;
«Pornography is the representation of sexual acts, with excessive emphasis on the sexual elements and with the main purpose of sexual arousal of the person». But is that really all it is? We think not. Porn can inform, entertain and educate. It can broaden issues such as gender, sexuality and our personal identity, it can raise awareness, it can be political and of course it can be fun! And it is these «more than just porn’ films that we are interested in at this festival.
What is the audience of the Festival?;
People who are fed up with commercial porn and are looking for something different. People who are interested in human sexuality and its politics. People who want to see more than the «male gaze». People who like art cinema. People who want to feel that the porn they see represents them. People who have a thirst for learning.
What prizes will be awarded?;
The Festival Awards (International Short Fiction 2021, International Short Factual 2021, Greek Short 2021) will be awarded by three-member juries for each category. Members of the jury: Members of the jury: Maria Katsikadakou, Giorgos Tsitiridis, Katerina Panopoulou, Adam Baran, Elias Adam, Styophan O'Callah, Tino Monetti. The awards have been designed by the artist Zacharias Petrakis from Zacharias.es.

Information:
The festival pass gives access to all films for 10 days from Friday 10 December 00:00 until midnight on Monday 20 December. The pass is purchased from a platform in the US and costs $18, which is about €15. It will be available for purchase with bank cards ONLY until midnight on Thursday 9 December. Those who purchase the pass will receive an email at dawn on December 10 with instructions to create a profile and access the viewing platform.
Language accessibility:
The festival defines itself as an international festival with the official language being English and then Greek. The films that have dialogue have mainly English subtitles. There are a few films with Greek subtitles and they are listed in the program with Greek subs.

Host Festival: 10 years of PopPorn | Every year the festival hosts a foreign festival. This year, to celebrate 10 years of PopPorn, 14 Brazilian films from this decade of sexy fun and joy are hosted by Tino Monetti.
A few words about the first version
The first edition of the festival was held online in November 2020. Over 300 viewers bought a ticket for the festival that gave access to all films on the platform. Initially the 93 films were only going to be available for 72 hours, but after public demand the festival was extended to a total of 10 days. The ticket proceeds raised €650 for legal fees for the family of Zack/Zackie Oh. And many of the artists donated their fees by raising a sum of 500€ for the Bisexual Support Association.
