In more than 60 forested areas across the country, including Hymettus, Seich-Sou, Poros, Prokopi in Northern Euboea, Kato Neurokopi, Mount Ainos on Kefalonia, and Strofylia in Olympia, extensive preventive cleanup operations are underway; combustible biomass that has accumulated over decades is being removed, forest roads are being maintained, and firebreaks are being cleared.

According to the Ministry of Environment and Energy, cleanup and fuel removal work is underway on Mount Hymettus in a forested area of 2,220 stremmata, as well as the widening and maintenance of a 90-kilometer-long forest road network, and the removal of unauthorized wooden structures.

The Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy conducted an on-site inspection today of three cleanup areas on Mount Hymettus: the Pavlos Melas area at the foot of the mountain in Karea, Arapi Hill, and Panorama Voulas. accompanied by the Secretary General of Forests, Konstantinos Aravosis, and the Head of the General Directorate of Forests and Forest Policy at the Ministry of Environment and Energy, Evangelos Gkountoufas.

It should be noted that the «Antinero» National Forest Protection Program is being implemented with 50 million euros in funding from the Recovery & Resilience Fund and 22 million euros from the Regular Budget, in collaboration with TAIPED.

In total, the cleanup program covers an area of 77,000 stremmata, 12,000 kilometers of forest roads are being cleared, and 1,600 kilometers of firebreaks are being maintained.
