The Deputy Minister of Shipping, Mr. Katsafados, visited the town hall today, Wednesday, May 12, on the feast day of Saint Theodore, to meet with the Mayor of Kythira, Mr. Efstratios Charhalakis. Watch the statements on camera.

The Municipality of Kythira issued a press release regarding the Deputy Minister's visit to the island's town hall and his discussion with the mayor and other officials on issues concerning the islands of Kythira and Antikythira.

«Visit to Kythira Town Hall took place at noon on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, by Deputy Minister of Shipping and Island Policy, Mr. Konstantinos Katsafados. The Deputy Minister and his entourage were welcomed by Mayor Mr. Efstratios Charhalakis with the Deputy Mayors, X. Sougiannis and C. Komino and the President of the Lim. Fund, D. Kalligeros. The Mayor thoroughly informed the Deputy Minister about all the current issues affecting the island and the Municipality and expressed the satisfaction of the local community and professionals with the approval 2^no subsidized weekly route from Gythio, which had been a long-standing demand for many years.

The complex issue of legalization of the port at Diakofto, the Municipality's request for approval of emergency funding from the Ministry of Shipping for the lease of a unit desalination for the island of Antikythira Due to this year's water shortage, the need to add classrooms to the Gymnasium in collaboration with KTIP, and the overall progress of dozens of important projects funded on our island.

The important development actions of the Attica Islands Network, in which the Mayor of Kythira is Chairman of the Board of Directors, with Mr. Katsafados praising the collaborative efforts of the eight municipalities of the Islands Regional Unit aimed at local development through the successful implementation of the CLLD/LEADER program, the «Fisheries» program, and the maturation of important infrastructure projects (e.g., the Kythira Slaughterhouses) with funding from the Attica Region.

Finally, the Deputy Minister pledged to continue contributing to the resolution of our municipality's problems and placed particular emphasis on the port infrastructure that will be financed by the NEARCHOS program« and in the recent large financing of Kythira Port Authority for the preparation of studies on the maturity of port projects, the most important of which is the tourist boat anchorage in Back to Gialos Kapsali.»
