«Gone» the great Paolo Rossi

The legend of Italian and world football has passed away, Paolo Rossi, at the age of 64. The cause of death, according to RAI Sport, where Rossi had been working lately, was listed as «incurable disease».

Paolo Rossi won two championships Italy, a European Cup and an Italian Cup with the Juventus, however, he was remembered for the six goals he scored during the World Cup 1982 in Spain, where Italy were crowned champions.

In particular, the hat trick against Brazil in the semi-final, was deeply etched in the memory, while Rossi added another goal in the 3-1 win against West Germany in the final.

Paolo Rossi hung up his boots in 1987 after a brilliant career at Juventus, Milan, Verona, Vicenza and Como.

With 9 goals, he became Italy's top scorer in World Cup finals alongside Roberto Baggio and Christian Vieri. He scored 20 goals in 48 appearances for the Italian national team.

In the IFFHS vote for the best of the 20th century, he was voted 40th European.
