On 11 November 2024 the 5th special accountability meeting of the Kythera Municipal Council was held. The participation of the councillors was limited, with several absences. Despite the lack of quorum, the meeting continued as special accountability meetings do not require all members to be present.
The agenda of the meeting included issues such as the management of the supply of tourist and promotional items, feral goats causing problems for crops, the delayed delivery of sports facilities, and road issues.
Main topics:
- Supply of tourist items: Worth €37,000, the products remain unsold. Their disposal or use for donations was discussed, with the opposition denouncing mismanagement.
- Wild goats: Crop damage is increasing and solutions are being delayed by bureaucratic and legal obstacles.
- Sports facilities: The delay in the delivery of pitches is a cause for concern. The municipality attributed the delays to material problems, while the opposition blamed inaction.
- Road construction: Projects remain pending due to lack of funding, despite the financial participation of residents.
The meeting highlighted serious issues of management and priorities, with citizens expressing outrage at the delays and lack of effective solutions.
