Before the Mixed Court of Justice was found after 9:00 a.m. Dimitris Lignadis, who will stand trial for the most serious felonies involving sexual violence that are attributed to him.
Three women and one man were selected by lot to serve as jurors in the trial, while the three regular judges are women.
The artist's attorney, Alexis Kougias, excluded three women, while two others were excluded by the prosecutor.
The court also selected two alternate members by lot, as the trial is expected to last quite some time.
Mr. Kougias requested that the trial be adjourned, since, as he said, he has obligations related to important trials where the statute of limitations is about to expire and 18-month deadlines are approaching. As he noted, this does not pose a problem for the defendant or his detention, as he still has six months remaining. «We are requesting a suspension within the month of March. The defendant wants to stand trial, but he is forced to accommodate my schedule. We are eager for the trial to proceed, which is why we are not requesting a postponement but rather a recess,’ noted Mr. Kougias.
The court adjourned to decide whether to grant the defense's motion.
